The Chagres Challenge
Navigate the crystal-clear waters of the Chagres River on a thrilling Class II–III white-water rafting expedition through Chagres National Park. Surrounded by dense tropical rainforest, this vibrant ecosystem offers excellent opportunities to spot wildlife such as monkeys, iguanas, otters, hawks, toucans, and river fish.
Your adventure begins with a 5:00 AM pickup in Panama City. A 4x4 vehicle transports you to the remote village of San Cristóbal, where you will enjoy a light breakfast before embarking on a 2 to 3 hour jungle hike (often a muddy path) to the Piedras River, a major tributary of the Chagres. Around 11:00 a.m. launch your 5-hour rafting descent through virgin rainforest, navigating rapids and taking in views of local Emberá communities along the riverbanks.
Enjoy a delicious meal set along the river's edge during the journey. Near Madden Lake, an indigenous motor canoe will tow the rafts for about 30 minutes to the road transfer site. Return transportation will bring you back to Panama City by approximately 7:00 PM.
Includes: Round-trip transportation, rafts, safety gear, expert guides, and meals. All guides are certified in white-water navigation, first-aid, and CPR.
