Volcan

Volcano Baru National ParkOn the western slope of Volcan Baru, only 30 minutes away from the city of David, lies the small town of Volcan. It is located in the province of Chiriqui, at an altitude that varies between 4,000 and 5000 feet above the sea level. This area of Panama, blessed by nature, is famous for its year round perfect weather (between 60-80 F°) and the natural beauty of the territory, whose mountains resemble the Alps. On clear days, from the highest craters of the extinct, 12,000-feet high Volcan Baru, it is even possible to observe the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

Volcan and its surrounding areas house an incredible variety of flora and fauna. Although tourism is rapidly growing, the most important commercial activities are still agriculture and cattle farming. The rich and fertile soil is ideal to grow oranges, coffee and flowers, which are exported all over the world. People here can practice sweet-water fishing, mountain biking, rafting and hiking. Birdwatching is another popular activity: among the many species of endemic birds, it is easy to spot the resplendent quetzal. There are two important nearby natural reserves: the Volcan Baru National Park and La Amistad Park, which is shared with Costa Rica. Another main attraction is the Sitio Barriles Museum, southwest of the town, where it is possible to visit the rests of an ancient village and observe statues, pottery and different stone-made artefacts.

Other aspects that contribute in making Volcan a preferred vacation or even settlement destination are the low cost of living, amazing real estate opportunities, excellent facilities and a good infrastructure. Volcan has paved roads, several gas stations, supermarkets, restaurants, medical centers, pharmacies, Internet cafes, bakeries, hardware stores and much more. If you wish to enjoy a simpler life style in a small mountain village, Volcan is definitely your dream destination.
