Boca Brava, Gulf of Chiriqui
Panama travel destination
The Island of Boca Brava is situated in the Gulf of Chiriqui and neighboring other islands including Isla Paridita, Islas Secas and many others. The entire area including Isla San Pedro is part of the Golfo Chiriqui National Marine Park, which protects an area of over 14,000 hectares including two dozen islands and their surrounding waters. Boca Brava Island is a 3000 hectares big, beautiful island that offers travelers an unspoiled natural atmosphere with lots of hiking trails, white sand tropical beaches, mangroves and numerous wildlife. It is also an important spot for birders and wildlife watching fans since it is home to hundreds of monkeys, nesting sea turtles and 280 types of birds.
Our best recommendation to stay in Boca Brava Island is at the luxury eco island resort Hotel Cala Mia. This secluded boutique hotel is located on the tip of the island and about a 20 minutes boat ride from the mainland. This resort consists of 11 beautiful villas of various sizes, each with its own thatched roof rancho overlooking the pristine Pacific Ocean.
Access to Boca Brava Island is via Horconcitos and through the village of Boca Chica, where you will find smaller boats which can take you any of the above mentioned islands. The area is quickly becoming a popular destination within Panama. Tourism activity is increasing very rapidly as more and more infrastructure and roads are put into place. New restaurants, small hotels, fishing lodges and other facilities have recently opened in the area. From the area and islands around Boca Brava, you can enjoy swimming, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, boating and fishing.
